Falls Sports Season

The fall sports season has begun at our house. We have attended three softball games and one football game with a number of events scheduled for the next week. I guess I've always enjoyed being a part of a team and the excitement that comes from sharing something bigger than yourself with a group of people for whom you have a common passion.

These days I enjoy attending the events to cheer on friends, relatives and neighbors. There is something about a small town and the effort that goes into showing support for young people. A new season has started and the fresh hope of a victory is just around the corner.

Happy New Year!

"Happy New Year" takes on new meaning when you are an educator. To most people, Happy New Year! is something that is said on January 1st. For educators it is often a reference to the start of a new school year.

There are very few vocations where there is always a "starting point" and and "ending point" and education is one of those. I am always ready for the start of a new year--a chance to start fresh and bring in new ideas, try new activities, and get involved in new projects. On the other hand, I'm usually ready for school to be "out" come the middle of May.

When I worked with a school district, there were clearly defined starts and stops and I miss that these days. However, I still find myself starting and stopping projects to align with the school year.

Here's to a new school year, a new year of ideas and a "Happy New Year!"

Technology Users

It seems a little strange to think of what is was like before I had a laptop computer. Seems it is the tool of choice for checking movie times, reading newspaper articles, and looking up information on a daily basis.

I use technology tool names as verbs---"google it", "I was twittering..." etc.

Makes me wonder what the next 10 years will bring.
